    Position: MSME Banking Expert

    Duty Location: Kathmandu

    Expected Start Date: By early March, 2019

    Nature of Engagement: STTA (70 days LOE spread over one year)

     

    UKaid Sakchyam Access to Finance Programme is supporting a leading commercial bank of Nepal, to implement a robust and comprehensive MSME banking strategy. With our support, the partner bank has recently completed a diagnostic exercise of their MSME Banking Business and now we are seeking an MSME Banking Expert with proven expertise and experience to support the bank in the development and implementation of a MSME Banking Strategy based on the findings and recommendations of the diagnostic exercise.

    Key Responsibilities MSME Banking Expert 

    • Segmentation and Market Understanding: Undertake information collection and analysis for market segmentation within the MSME sector. Assist in the creation of the structure of the new MSME unit and alignment of the new structure and segmentation within the bank’s existing set-up.
    • Products and Marketing: Review the bank’s existing products and services for the MSME sector in light of the new segmentation exercise and guide the bank to revise existing and design new product offerings to form the basis of a clearly defined value proposition. Design an appropriate, segment specific sales and marketing plan with clearly defined objectives, targets, and interventions.
    • Process streamlining: Conduct an end to end credit process review with the objective of making changes and adjustments to streamline the process and support timely delivery of the newly designed credit product interventions. Provide support for the introduction of a new loan automation software. Review supporting credit documentation (application forms, analysis and appraisal templates) to make them more efficient and customer-friendly and to reduce TAT. Support and co-ordinate with the Credit Scoring Expert for the introduction and implementation of scorecard models.
    • Training & development: Provide required trainings/ToT in product design and marketing strategy, credit assessment, sales and service management and other related areas. Assist in drafting toolkits/manuals to support credit appraisal targeting the MSME sector.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    • Master’s degree in economics/banking/finance.
    • 15 years of experience of MSME/SME banking and operation in developing countries.
    • Proven experience of working with financial service providers on similar issues. (Examples of previous project implementations are required, along with supporting references. References will be checked as part of the selection process).
    • Preferred experience of working with financial service providers targeting semi-urban, rural clients in underdeveloped countries including Nepal.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills as well as an ability to work to tight deadlines.
    • Strong team worker and ability to interact with bank staff from junior to senior levels.
    • Knowledge of the MSME banking environment in Nepal or other South Asian countries is preferable
    • Able to work in Nepal
